5 Glossary 5.1 For the purpose of this procedure, the following definitions apply. All rights reserved. 5.2 BIOMASS – the biodegradable fraction of products, waste and residues from biological origin from agriculture (including vegetal and animal substances), forestry and related industries including fisheries and aquaculture, as well as the biodegradable fraction of industrial and municipal waste. (DIRECTIVE 2009/28/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 23 April 2009) 5.3 BY-PRODUCT SYNERGY – Is the matching of under-valued waste or by-product streams from one faciity with potential users at another facility to create new revenues or savings with potential social and environmental benefits (US BCSD). 5.4 CHILD LABOR AND YOUNG WORKERS (also known as JUVENILE WORKERS) – The term“child” refers to any person under the age of 15, or under the age for completing compulsory education, or under the minimum age for employment in the country, whichever is greatest. For juvenile workers (between the age of 15 to 18, the minimum age for performing work that is likely to jeopardize workers health or safety (including night shifts and overtime) is 18. 5.5 CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM – A system in which materials are reclaimed, returned to and reused at the same material technical application equivalence or performance specifications as when the material was first used. 5.6 CREDIT UNIT – The unit of measure for credits within a credit system. See Section 13 for use of credits.
7 Reuse 7.1 General 7.1.1 In order to claim reuse, the component, part or product must have come from an established and documented reuse system. 7.2 Reuse system requirements 7.2.1 When less than whole products contain reused parts, the content is calculated as the total mass of reused parts divided by the mass of product produced. a) The part must have been previously discarded or have been salvaged from a discarded product. b) The mass of material is the mass of the part or component being reused minus the mass added to the reused part during preparation for reuse. 8 Refurbish 8.1 General 8.1.1 In order to claim refurbishment the component, part or product must have come from and established and documented refurbishment system. 8.2 Refurbished system requirements 8.2.1 When less than whole products contain refurbished parts, the content is calculated as the total mass of refurbished parts divided by the mass of product produced.
